Florida Predatory Stink Bug nymphs - Alcaeorrhynchus grandis

Florida Predatory Stink Bug nymphs - Alcaeorrhynchus grandis
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
October 6, 2005
Has anyone seen this behavior before? Looked like the larger nymph was guarding the small ones - kind of like a teenage babysitter! As I watched them they all got uneasy (typical bug behavior) and headed to the other side of the Pentas leaf, all except the big one standing sentry. A couple of hours later I went back and the whole lot had relocated to a nearby plant, where once again a half-grown one was standing acting like a lookout for the little ones.
