Mystery Caterpillar1 - Cucullia

Mystery Caterpillar1 - Cucullia
Horseshoe Bend, Weatherford, Parker County, Texas, USA
October 6, 2009
Size: 1 1/2"
I found many of these on a certain plant that I do not recognize (small yellow daisy-like flowers; very sticky leaves and strong scent)...either a Heterotheca or a Machaeranthera). ID help would be appreciated.

Moved from ID Request. Based on comments, not my own ID.

We would suggest the genus Cucullia
but we still continue to wait patiently for a southwestern expert to stop by and teach us about these. :(

Me too!
Hope it's soon....

uhm...
It reminds me of some kind of owlet moth caterpillar, but I can't seem to find this particular one. Maybe one of the experts can give you an ID. Until then, I will keep looking. :-)

Well...
...I just looked through all owlet moth pics here on Bugguide, and didn't find this. I also googled based on color and didn't find it there either. And it's not in my Caterpillar reference book. Truly a mystery. I hope someone can ID it. Thanks for your response!
