Steatoda grossa spiderling - Steatoda grossa - female

Steatoda grossa spiderling - Steatoda grossa - Female
Enumclaw, Forested Unincorporated King County, Washington, USA
October 3, 2009
Size: 1mm body
It almost looks like she's waving hello! This is a newborn Steatoda grossa female...I do know that for a fact because it was my S. grossa couple that made her. Unfortunately, only her and one other female 'hatched'. I feel partly to blame since the place I kept the egg sac was too humid and I think the rest of the eggs molded. Anyways, I just noticed that there are no photos of S. grossa spiderlings in the Guide so I thought I'd post some. Plus I love the species. And just so you know, the spiderlings always look just like their parents from the moment they hatch, just a miniature version. I'm sure that's true for all Steatoda spp. but so far I can only confirm that in the grossa species.
