Ammophila procera or nigricans - Ammophila pictipennis

Ammophila procera or nigricans - Ammophila pictipennis
Meadowood, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
October 7, 2009
I believe this to be A. procera or nigricans, but don't know how to tell them apart. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Moved from Ammophila.

Neither.
This is clearly a specimen of Ammophila pictipennis. Note no silver markings on the side of the thorax, plus the orange wings. Very distinctive species.

Thank you, Eric.
For the correct ID and the specific info on the markings. I'm in a group of amateur naturalist that conducts a weekly general wildlife survey. We greatly appreciate your guide. This time, it got us close, and I should have looked more thoroughly through BugGuide.
