Yes, we have all made our share of mistakes.
Luckily mistakes are easily corrected on BugGuide, otherwise we would have to keep quiet on most IDs! Thanks for trying. Lynette and we can use all the help we can get on spider ID. Sometimes another pair of eyes is all one needs to open up a new view to an ID. Welcome!

Thank you
And I know I will be learning a lot from you guys and BugGuide as a whole, but I will try my hardest to contribute some of the things that I know too...and I'll probably make some more mistakes. lol. Thank you for the warm welcome too!

Moved
Moved from ID Request. Nice one. The first images for NY I think.

We would suggest genus Larinioides
Lynette has just worked on those images in BugGuide, so she should have a good idea which species this is.

Orb weaver
Araneidae family. Most likely the Araneus genus. At first glance I figured Araneus diadematus...but then I looked closer and there doesn't seem to be a white 'cross' on the abdomen. I've read somewhere on the internet that it can be indistinct or absent in some specimens, but I don't know if that's true or not. I'm sure an expert will know. Oh, and this spider is totally harmless to humans and very common but it does make huge orb webs that can get in your way sometimes.

Oh wow
Yep, Lynette is definitely right. Please ignore most of my above comment (except for Araneidae). I was going to just erase it but I thought that would make it look like I'm ashamed of mistakes. lol. So I'll leave it. :)
