I found these just to the right of a rather small spider with her brood that apparently just hatched out. These don't look like spider egg cases to me, but, what do I know? Any info would be much appreciated.

Yes! You're right. I had a nagging feeling they looked familiar. And, they are definitely stuck to the leaf on their sides, which is probably why the lightbulb didn't come on. I have found quite a few of slightly varying sizes this past summer standing on end, per usual. Sorry about that.
