Puerto Rico sensitive-briar (
Mimosa asperata, Fabaceae) - note, despite the species' common name, this plant is native to the Rio Grande Valley.
Life Cycle
was studied to assess potential for control of Mimosa pigra in Australia and SE Asia (Heard et al. 1999)
Remarks
last collected in the Lower Rio Grande Valley in 1944.
A fair number of specimens from the Brownsville area were collected around the turn of the century indicating that this species once common in that area.
