Stink Bug, Halyomorpha halys - Halyomorpha halys

Stink Bug, Halyomorpha halys - Halyomorpha halys
Bethesda, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
October 8, 2009
Size: 19 mm
My wife found it on her pillow when we went to bed last night and surprised me dropping it into my hand. She knew I would view it, not as a pest, but as a photographic opportunity.
It's certainly Acanthocephala but doesn't quite look like the photos of "terminalis" on this site. I have a question. I take it that the compound eyes are the dark disks on either side of the head. But there a two carbuncle like structures -like polished red spheres behind them and interior to them. Are these simple eyes?
