big fly - Paradejeania rutilioides

big fly - Paradejeania rutilioides
Napa, Napa County, California, USA
October 8, 2005
Size: .75 inch
This unusually large (at least 3/4 inch) hairy, colorful, fly found its way into my kitchen and was buzzing against the window until I 'rescued' it, whereupon it demonstrated its gratitude by posing for me before flying happily away. I thought it was a bumble bee at first, but now am convinced it's a fly. Would really like to know what kind.

Tachinidae: Paradejeania rut
Tachinidae: Paradejeania rutilioides (Jaennicke)

I think you're right - this looks like a tachinid fly
maybe Paradejeania rutiloides?
