Unidentified tick-shaped bug - Cimex lectularius

Unidentified tick-shaped bug - Cimex lectularius
Palisades, New Jersey, USA
Size: approx 6mm long, 3mm wide
When we initially spotted it we thought it might be a tick, but on closer inspection not. In the absence of a decent camera this pic is taken on our scanner - this is the back of the bug. The legs are blurry because they were wiggling!
