Ace - Antheraea polyphemus

Ace - Antheraea polyphemus
Ocean Shores, Washington, USA
September 10, 2009
Size: 5-6 inches wings out
We found Ace on a gravel sample in front of an Ace Hardware in Ocean Shores, Washington in September, 2007. He was so gorgeous and about 5-6 inches with his wings out. We think he is a moth, Antheraea Polyphemus with the help of John Acorn, the Nature Nut. We wanted to submit his photo and the wonderful side photo we managed to get with his wings folded.

It's definitely a "she," the antennae of a male would be much more feathery, and he'd have a narrower abdomen than the side view image shows.
