Tolype Moth - Tolype notialis

Tolype Moth - Tolype notialis
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
October 9, 2005
Color is a little off....over exposed and then tried to fix with adjustments.

Small Tolype, I think
This looks like Small Tolype, T. notialis. The postmedian line on the forewing is very jaggy, it is smooth in Large Tolype, T. velleda. Also, T. notialis is very dark, T. velleda more gray.

There are other species, Covell (1) mentions T. minta from South Carolina southward, but the description does not match.
