Size: 1/4th inch
I know this is a larva of some sort but would like to know of what. The fluffy covering is held by the larva with some of its legs as protection/disguise. Found in typical Eastern forest.

I'm surprised you let it on your finger those guys deliver nasty bites.

I've handled these on a number of occasions over the years and have never been bitten by one. Didn't know they could or would bite. I generally handle insects unless I know they are a problem or they give me reason to desist....

I've been lucky, then. I've handled many of them to deliver them to my garden from crowded hatching sites, and I've only been gently pinched. So either they like me or I'm invincible?
