Paranthrene robiniae - Male
Nosehill Park, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
August 1, 2009
Size: 28 mm ws
Generally considered a uncommon/rare find in Alberta; this was observed puddling on mud at the margins of a dried-up vernal pond together with yellow jackets; the mimicry was so good that I initially thought I landed a very fancy potter wasp when I netted it. There were plenty of aspens/poplar trees nearby which probably serve as host plants.
