Pogonomyrmex
Yes. they are genus Pogonomyrmex, based on the bright red coloration and the apparent lack of epitnotal spines I would say P. maricopa.

the ID and the comments, Gordon. Went back to this nest today and examined several specimens and they lack epinotal spines.
