Backswimmer
an aquatic bug in the family Notonectidae, often attracted to lights.

Backswimmer
Thanks for the ID.

Agreed
Another quick field test to distinguish Notonectidae from Corixidae is to place a live specimen into the hands of an assistant (grad students are good for this), if you hear OW!! it's Notonectidae for sure. ;)>

Thanks
Since I don't have an assistant, I'll pass on the field test. :-)

I agree...
I agree with Robin, I've done some research on these critters and I seem to remember that the large eyes on your specimen were a identifying feature...I'll dig around and see what I can find...

GREAT shots by the way:)

Thanks...
for the compliment and the help.

Most likely...
A species of Buenoa. Especially if you compare it with this image. Arnett (1) lists B. margaritacea as the most commonly collected species.
