Thanks for the leads!

After studying those two species today (both in the tribe Agrotini), it appears to me that my specimen is an Ipsilon Dart (Agrotis ipsilon, "Black Cutworm"), closely matching the description provided by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Entomology, notably the unequally sized, paired black tubercules and two-striped head.

The Tessellate Dart (Euxoa tessellata, "Striped Cutworm") lacks these features:
