Is it a butterfly or a fly?
Loxahatchee Marsh, Florida, USA
October 17, 2009
Size: Right about 1 inch
Found at the Loxahatchee marsh preserve at about 9 a.m. Bright sunlight. At first I thought he was a butterfly.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

It is a skipper.
It is a skipper.

i.e. a butterfly relative
Not everyone knows what a skipper is, other than a boat captain :-)

skipper
Ah then it IS a butterfly and a skipper to boot. I have a Long Tailed skipper (photo). This one is different but now I know I'm on the right track. Thank you guys for your help.

Skipper
Oh my, I'm searching for which skipper this little guy is and finding hundreds of possibilities.

he's pretty beat-up
But you still might get a subfamily or genus ID. I'm going to move it to the Skipper section, some people specialize in skippers and pay more attention in that section than in ID Request.
