Alopecosa?
Alopecosa?

Alopecosa?
Lynette, perhaps you could ask about this one? A. kochi seems to be the most likely candidate (assuming that Alopecosa is correct), but I wonder whether the cardiac mark is so strong in kochi. I've got a partial copy of Dondale & Redner's Lycosidae book; it contains an illustration of the dorsum of A. exasperans, a species apparently from further north, which is a close match here, but I don't have the description (missing pages 312 & 313).

What does anyone think?

Nice shot
whenever possible, please try to also photograph the ventral side. Wolf spiders are a huge group and we need all the help we can get for an ID. Thanks!

Hi, Lynette,
I always try to get shots from all angles but this spider was high on an outside wall and I had to drag over a rock and stand on my tiptoes just to get this shot. I only wish I'd had a ladder with me. :] It's a snappy-lookin' spider.
