Black aphids on lettuce - Aphis Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA October 14, 2009 Size: Largest ~2mm
These aphids were extremely common on both wild and cultivated lettuce plants (genus Latuca), even as the weather became cold in October. The individual at upper right is in the process of molting into a winged adult.
Plant: Wild lettuce, Lactuca virosa.
