Polyphemus - Antheraea polyphemus

Polyphemus - Antheraea polyphemus
Choctaw County, Oklahoma, USA
October 17, 2009
My son found this in the front yard. It was very odd for it had a rock in its mouth. I looked it up online and at first thought it was the Luna and then found out it maybe the Polyphemus. I wanted to see how to raise it and found out it drops from trees, then finds leaves to cacoon in. Well I put some leaves in a jar with it and in a couple of hours gone to check on it and it was already in a cacoon. I also found online that it takes 6 months for this to hatch. The cacoon has to stay moist and cold.
