Small Crane Fly - Trichocera

Small Crane Fly - Trichocera
Bethlehem, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
October 10, 2005
Size: 5mm
This crane fly was the size of a mosquito.

Winter Crane Fly
This is a Winter Crane Fly belongs to family Trichoceridae. It probably is a species of genus Trichocera, but needs more details to be sure. Winter crane fly can be separated from crane flies by their venation. The 2nd anal vein is very short and it turned very abrutptly toward the margin at the base of the wings. This character can be seen when venations were shown clearly on images - Chen
