Thought I had a new new (for me) dragonfly, but.... - Tramea lacerata
Baton Rouge - BREC Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, USA
October 20, 2009
I thought I had found a new dragonfly, but now looking thru the BugGuide files I see that is likely an old friend (Tramea lacerata - Black Saddlebags) in different clothes than I have seen before.
Usually the ones I have seen have:
Very little gold on body
Much deeper purple body - almost black
Much deeper purple eyes - almost black

Why so different?
Different sex?
End of the season special on wardrobe?
Just different because?

John
