Handsome Meadow Katydid - Orchelimum pulchellum - male

Handsome Meadow Katydid - Orchelimum pulchellum - Male
Snowhill Road north of Cabin Branch Creek, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
October 5, 2005
Size: 22 mm
Found singing in the afternoon from the underside of the leaf of some bramble, Rubus. Captured and posed. Length, head to tip of cerci, was 22 mm, length to wing tips was 27 mm.

This series will try to show some details of this species, including the cerci. I hope to get series like this for the local Orchelimum. In this lateral view, note the bright green/turquoise coloration, the white face with red mottling on the edges, and the bright blue eyes. (It seems that only this species has the brigth blue eyes in my area.)
