Ceranemota species - Ceranemota
Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
October 22, 2009
This guy just showed up at the light tonight. Two photos of same individual. Saw another last night but almost all the scales were gone - it was a very wet night.

Got one of these about this time last year but didn't get it beyond genus. Looks as if there may be the same problem this year. This time managed to get underwing, but not sure how much that helps! Options seem to be C. improvisa 6242 and C. fasciata 6243. Based on CBIF images looks more like C. improvisa - head colour in particular, two black dots in basal area, ST area markings - but less clear how you would distinguish based on MPG photos. Powell & Opler indicate that C. fasciata flies in late September, whereas C. improvisa flies mid-October to mid- November; this would again tend to favour C. improvisa, although both this year and last have been realtively mild into the fall.

Any help appreciated!
