Spider in tree - Badumna longiqua

Spider in tree - Badumna longiqua
Alameda County, California, USA
October 24, 2009
Size: ~3/8 in., 10 mm
Found by examining prunings from an unidentified tree (neighbor's, hangs over fence). Spider was between two leaves lightly webbed together, originally 10 or 12 feet off the ground. It may have molted recently; a limp exoskeleton was on the same leaf.

In appearance and behavior (posture and minimal movement when discovered), it resembled Badumna longiqua recently found here, but the dorsal markings and the relative leg lengths don't quite match. Compare:

very similar
They sure look a lot alike to me.

Looks similar to me, too
Looks like another Badumna to me. She has those nice, robust chelicerae that are common for female Badumna, plus the eye pattern looks good for Badumna (anterior median eyes are larger than the rest of the eyes). And also your location (coastal Cali) is Badumna stomping ground.

I wish they'd carry
ID cards around their necks. What about the dorsal markings and extra-long front legs? Aren't those significant at all?

long legs
are more significant (I think) as dorsal markings can vary in most spiders. Spiders of the same species can have longer legs when comparing males to females, but this doesn't look like a male to me. What's hard for us (photo viewers) is to tell the actual length of the spiders legs when they aren't laying flat.
