Pardosa lapidicina - Stone Spider?
Thanks Lynette and Kevin. Having paged through the Pardosa gallery, P. lapidicina looks like a possibility to me based on abdominal mottling, sharply banded legs, and habitat:


...but I am not qualified to make the final call.

Here is one last mystery: when I re-read the Pardosa lapidicina posting that I provided as a linked thumbnail just above, I see that the author seemed to have agreed with the comment that it was not Pardosa after all (possibly being Arctosa instead)...but the whole posting is classified as Pardosa lapidicina.
