Cool!
This is the original Centruroides vittatus, described back in 1821. The types were destroyed in a fire, and when Wood (1863) reported scorpions from Texas, he called the Texas one we now know as C. vittatus by that name. The name stuck, and Banks "rediscovered" the Florida/Georgia scorpion and named it C. hentzi after the esteemed arachnologist who described the green lynx spider among countless others.

and P. audax, one of my favorites.
I actually have some Hentz and it's one of my favorite books, although outdated. ( 1875! )
I am under the impression there are only two scorpion sp. in FL? Is this correct?

Three
So far, the official tally is 3: C. hentzi, C. gracilis, and what might end up being C. hentzi, C. guanensis (extreme S FL).
