Sand Bug in California - Emblethis vicarius

Sand Bug in California - Emblethis vicarius
Webb Canyon, ~2000 ft. elevation, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 26, 2009
Size: ~5 mm
While rescuing other critters from the pool, I noticed this much more interesting bug crawling nearby. First time I've ever seen this fellow and not quite sure what it is... I'm intuitively leaning towards Rhyparochromidae, but I could definitely use some help on this one. (I have a few more pics, if needed to pin down an ID.) Surrounding habitat is mixed oak and chaparral.

Sorta' looks similar to this example of Emblethis vicarius, but I'm not absolutely certain if that species is found in CA... Also, I measured my specimen at about 5 mm. It could have been slightly larger, but the 6-7 mm listed on the Info page seems a bit too large to be a match. (Then again, Tom Murray has a specimen that he lists at ~4 mm, so who knows?)

great call, Harsita; our only member of the genus, it seems
Moved from True Bugs.
