Ant on the beach - Lasius
Sunset Beach, Cape May, Cape May County, New Jersey, USA

Size: At least 4mm
Beach has coarse sand, small pebbles, no vegetation. The ant was on damp sand, not near the dry grassy dunes.

Lasius claviger or umbratus group
One of the Lasius social parasite species. They fly at this time of year and can be found well into the spring.
