Nuptial flight

Nuptial flight
Peace Valley Nature Center, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
October 21, 2009
Size: +/- 7 mm
Do only females produce formic acid? I noticed a strong smell when I touched one but not when I was handling others.
This one lost one front wing and a back wing. I included them in the other photo; I hope that it helps with identification.
