near Collettsville, Pisgah National Forest, Caldwell County, North Carolina, USA
October 24, 2009
Size: length 42 mm.
Found resting in a head-down position on side of cabin mid-morning.

After checking Covell and MPG, the best match I can find is Catocala piatrix - 8771, but that's just
an amateur guess.

Any comments on this moth's ID would be very much appreciated.
