Webb Canyon, ~2000 ft. elevation, Los Angeles County, California, USA
March 29, 2009
Size: ~4 mm
As is often the case, in retrospect, I wish I'd spent more time getting some better shots of this tiny rescue from the swimming pool. I'm pretty certain that it is a Carabid, and it looks awfully similar to several of the images in genus Clivina. I can only count seven segments on the one visible antenna, so I'm guessing some damage may have occurred here as that seems like too few... I seriously doubt if there is enough detail in my small photos to go to species on this one, but if possible I would love to have someone tell me if I am on the right track and confirm the correct tribe or genus. Thanks!

Surrounding habitat is chaparral and mixed oak woodland.
