Sac Spider? - Cheiracanthium

Sac Spider? - Cheiracanthium
Montrose, Laurens County, Georgia, USA
October 28, 2009
The nearest guess I could make matching the distinctive spinnerets and eye pattern, otherwise, I have no clue, whatsoever. Coloring is somewhat distinctive as well, with the patches of blue which are *not* artifacts of the imaging.

Cheiracanthium sp.
It's likely a Cheiracanthium, one of the longlegged sac spiders of the Miturgidae family. I don't know much about it, but some of these have a bite that's thought to be medically significant. I believe on the genus page there's a link to some info about whether it's true or not. There's only the two species here in the US I think. They are both wide-spread, so I'm not sure which one yours is. Happy Halloween! :)

I read the paper cited
in the link and I agree that there is too little in the way of *confirmed* bites to be at all conclusive. One of the authors was Sean Bush, whom you may recall had a TV show based in his emergency room dealing mostly with snake bites. Thanks for the ID, Mandy.
