Moved from Bibio.

Moved from ID Request. Probably Bibio longipes Loew. Finding the female would help -- the two candidates differ most obviously in the color of the female.

Thanks
I'll keep my eyes open for a female.

Yesterday
I took a hike through some local woods and found these literally swarming, thousands of them. I carefully grabbed several out of the air and every single one appeared to be male. Is this typical behavior? Where are all the females?!?

Males swarm
Swarms of flies often consist mainly of males hoping a female will come along and find the swarm. Once a male and female pair up they may fall out of the swarm or fly away.
