Melonworm Moth - Diaphania hyalinata

Melonworm Moth - Diaphania hyalinata
Ozark Mountains, Searcy County, Arkansas, USA
November 2, 2009

Diaphania hyalinata
Thanks for the ID and additional information. I've wondered about the reason for the bushy tails on a few moths.

BTW
Both male & female have the tail feathers

...
You're reading my mind. I was wondering about that too, originally thinking the tail feathers might indicate a female, but when I saw all the Melonworm Moths in the Guide had them I decided probably not.

Melonworm Moth - Hodges #5204
The "tail-feathers" are for producing pheromones. The moth waves them around to increase the distribution.
