Cicada - Neotibicen tibicen

Cicada - Neotibicen tibicen
Blackwood, Camden County, New Jersey, USA
September 4, 2005
Size: 3 in.
These two came falling to the ground, "screaming", then they laid there for a few minutes, which is when I got this picture. I thought they were both dead but the one in focus struggled a bit then flew away to a leaf in a tree, it kinda startled me to be honest. Is this mating or genocide?

Moved
Moved from Swamp Cicada.

Swamp Cicadas - mating
The one in focus (left) was the one screaming, for it was the male of the pair and females have no sound-producing organs. The pair was probably disturbed by a wannabe predator when mating, otherwise they wouldn't have fallen to the ground.

That's Tibicen tibicen, for those who don't know common names; see also bugguide.net/node/view/27863/bgimage
