This image shows the barbed setae. I collected a setae from this and put it under my microscope. It revealed the barbs are backwards. This way, if it goes in your skin, it isn't hard to pull out. See here:

Not hard to pull out but pain

Note the barbs are opposite. The way out is more smooth. The way in is prickly and painful.
