Mallophora

Mallophora
Spiderweb, Aiken County, South Carolina, USA
September 23, 2009
Size: ~30mm
This specimen was found dead under a Crape Myrtle tree.
There was no obvious signs of what caused its demise.
It looks like some of the images of M. bom*boides as it has the last few abdominal segments covered in yellow hairs and is a bit larger than other Mallophora's I have seen in this area.
Because it is dead, it can be frassed if that fact is a problem.
