I spotted this little scene on the base of a tree trunk. The darker ones appear to have hatched earliest and the most recent ones are lighter in color.

Wheel bugs
Almost certainly they are newly-hatched wheel bugs, Arilus cristatus, family Reduviidae. Females lay their eggs in a roughly hexagonal shape.
