Unknown Fly

Unknown Fly
Encino, Los Angeles County, California, USA
October 20, 2005
Size: 3/8 inch
Indoors on glass door facing back yard.

At first I thought it was a sarcophagid due to large size and three stripes on the thorax. Looking at the pictures, the dull black turns out to be metallic blue in the glare of the flash- so I think it's a calliphorid (there's at least one local calliphorid species with three stripes on the thorax).
