Gypsy Moth Caterpillar - Lymantria dispar

Gypsy Moth Caterpillar - Lymantria dispar
wakefield, washington County, Rhode Island, USA
July 22, 2005
The whole east coast had a problem with these guys sometime in the mid 20th century. The caterpillars are very destructive if they gather in large groups.

Lymantria dispar, Gypsy Moth
Lymantria dispar, Gypsy Moth caterpillar, anyone agree?

Possibly
- it's hard to see the distinctive brick red color in the rear sets of tubercles, but that could be because of poor light. The head (pointed away from us) looks right.
