Key on this?
Scott, as always, this is a beautiful specimen and photo. Do you have any better information about this species, especially differentiating from Sphex flavovestita/us, than do I, Herschel Raney, or Eric Eaton? My identification was rather tentative.

Educated Guess
Patrick, I have another pinned specimen besides this one. These wasps are here in FL as well as the rusty abdomen Sphex which I belive to be S. flavovestitus. My photo of this is listed with your pictures. I have no difinitive key or source, but simple process of elimination and educated guess. I don't see S. dorsalis in bugguide which is listed for FL on the page you referenced. I wish I could be more help, but would love to know for sure too.
