catclaw leaflet gall midge -
Contarinia undescribed-species-on-acacia
Indian Valley (near Indian Gorge), Anza-Borrego State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
March 9, 2009
These midges cause the paired leaflets of catclaw (
Acacia greggii
) to join, with the larva forming a gall between the leaflets.
Only the genus is known (per Ron Russo's
Plant Galls
book).
