Bibio male (Bibionidae, Diptera) - Bibio slossonae - Male
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
October 25, 2009
Size: 7 mm
Different pinned specimen, male, same species, wings held in a more natural position.
Flight period: mid-October to early November. Scale at left is millimeter divisions.
It seems to be Bibio, but I would like to get an identification to species level.

Bibio slossonae
Thanks for communicating the distinguishing characters, John.
All the males I've examined (~20) have black hairs on the thorax, not pale. All the females examined (~8) have black thoraxes, not red.
On both counts, therefore, B. slossonae not B. longipes.
