Size: 5mm
There were a couple of swarms with about 50 beetles flying around over the grass.

It is a hairy one
and now we have it in the guide from 3 New England states. Thanks Don!

Acidota subcarinata
otherwise known by me as "the hairy one."

Staphylinidae: Omaliinae: Acidota sp.
Another Acidota sp., the "hairy" one.
