Size: Body length 11.2 mm.
We believe this is a Bombardier Beetle in the genus Brachinus.
Placement would be appreciated.

Brachinus sp.
Definately in that genus. Would be very careful to try to give a species name without running it through a regional key (the closest I have is for SC). Gestalt doesn't always work with these guys.

 
Best key to North American Brachinus
is by Terry Erwin (1970) in Quaestiones entomologicae 6(1):4-215 which might cover LA species not included in the key to SC Brachinus by Ciegler (2000).

 
yeah...
i would even go as far as saying that Gestalt hardly ever works with these guys [not in this sp. group at least]
