Ron how frequently do you find these?
This has become a bit of a "bogey" species for me. I've been checking cochineal stands for nearly 5 years now over Los Angeles and Orange County. There's clearly something I'm missing about the species ecology but right now I don't know what.

 
I'm pretty much inactive now.
I remember these as being very small - tough to find and hard to shoot.

I've been finding all sorts of 1-2mm beetles on cactus. If these guys are truly 3mm, I think I'd spot them :)
