Camouflaged grasshopper--ID? - Hippiscus ocelote - Male
Williamson County, Texas, USA
October 7, 2005
This grasshopper had flown from a bush and landed in front of me on the trail. It was just after noon, and impossible to get a good separation from background shooting straight down--the camouflage effect is impressive. I'm including two pictures of it.

Probably Hippiscus.
This is probably Hippiscus ocelote, but would need to see various body parts not visible here to be certain. Those parts include: hind tibia (for color), interior surface of hind femur (again for color), and profile of pronotum (to see how many notches there are along the top).
