I can give it it's name!
I came across it wandering beside my aunts house in a very small sand pit mixed in with grass...
I took pictures of it because I have no idea what kind it was.
But now I know...

Confirmed: Platydracus immaculatus.

Interestingly, both bugguide records are from the Ottawa region..something also backed up by newer specimens - it seems the only way to reliably find this species in Ontario now is to be near Ottawa. It used to be found from Ottawa to Windsor previous to 1960-1970. Also, both bugguide specimens seem to have been found on driveways as they were wandering (Platydracus and relatives tend to do that).

Anyways, you have found something special..one of my favorite species

Also, this should definitely not be placed in the 'cinnamopterus complex' as it is either imma*culatus or macu*losus

Hi there,

I believe this is Platydracus immacu*latus, but without more of the body I cannot be sure. Do you have any information about where the specimen was found or another shot?
